The Gravity Base Structure (GBS) provides the foundation for the drilling and production facility. It consists of a 105.5-metre concrete caisson surrounded by an ice wall with 16 concrete teeth. The caisson is closed at the bottom and top by slabs and the base slab has a diameter of 108 metres. The top-surface slab is about 5 metres above sea level.

Four shafts—a utility shaft, a riser shaft and two drill shafts—run through the GBS to support the topside facilities. The drill shafts each house 32 drill slots to accommodate the wells, which will reach depths of more than 3,700 metres below sea level.
